I've had both the silver-nosed and the black-nosed MC versions. In my
experience, the MC version is much improved in the lens-flare
category. The old ones can be a challenge when shooting into the
sun.
I would suggest, however, that my older lens was sharper and didn't
suffer from diffraction blurring as much as my MC does. When you go
beyond F8, the image quality deteriorates.
If the price is good, nab it. The 24/2.8 lenses, of either variety,
are pretty rare. Also, the 24/2.8 is remarkably corrected for
distortion and is almost shocking to use as there is almost no barrel
or pincushion distortion as is always found in zoom lenses.
