I suggest that you make your way to East Anglia. Parts of Essex are
pretty, as are many more parts of Suffolk; but Norfolk does it every
time for me. As long as you don't want terrain that makes much more
than gentle undulations, it's a lovely area. There are some gorgeous
places in the West Country, Somerset, Dorset and Devon, but they cost
a bit more to rent. Mind you, the Lake District and Scotland are
beautiful. Oh, and Ireland has a goodly number of really lovely
rural retreats ...
... so many places to go, so little time! :-)
We spent a weekend at this B & B a couple of weeks ago:

It's on the north Norfolk coast in a village called Cley-next-the-
Sea. It's not as majestic a seaside place as pictured in your
photographs, but it is a restful place to be. The B & B is
expensive, but it's worth it for the welcome, the facilities and the
rather nice landlady. My wife took her parents to Captiva Cottage
for last weekend (I was working) and they loved it.
