I was trying the same thing (500/8 mirror +2x) a while ago, and that's
when it became clear to me that astrophotography really _does_ need
actual astronomical equipment to do properly.. The moon moves across the
_non-magnified_ frame fast enough to be a pain to keep in shot, and
while it's pretty bright so exposures don't have to be all that long,
without some sort of magical tracking device I know I can only get an
image that's so sharp, even if I set the camera in a block of concret..
