There was considerable speculation on various forums when the first L
4/3 zoom appeared that it might not work or not work as well on Oly 4/3
as on the Panny. The wording of the releases about it was such as to fan
such flames among the conspiracy theory lovers.
And once such an idea is out there, it dies hard. And they have done it
again. In the 24/1.4 release, they say:
"When the D SUMMILUX lens is used with the LUMIX DMC-L1 digital camera,
the photographer has an aperture ring as well as a focus ring at his or
her fingertips. These rings provide the same kind of easy, pleasant,
intuitive operation as experienced on traditional film cameras."
Even though they say further up, "complies with the Four Thirds System",
that statement raises the obvious question whether the front aperture
ring on this lens will work with other 4/3 mount cameras. Not whether
you have aperture control with the camera controls, but whether the ring
on the lens will work. So it might comply with 4/3, but have additional
function(s) that aren't available on all 4/3 bodies.
Then, in the 14-150 zoom announcement, they say "complies with the Four
Thirds System to assure wide compatibility with other camera models.",
different wording than for the 24/1.4 announcement made at the same
time, and showing that they are very aware of the compatibility issue.
And leading to the possible conclusion that the zoom is more fully
compliant with the spec. in the sense I talk about above.
