Walt,
It's worse with earlier models with no meter to warn you.
I never admit to leaving the lens cap on but I do occasionally take an extreme
macro shot of the inside of my lens cap :-)
All you can hope for is that you notice it yourself rather than have someone
say 'shouldn't that cap be off?' It's really
embarrassing.
