I'm glad you're enjoying your weather and the view, Piers. I always
understood that the weather was different there because the Great
Glen funnelled the Gulf Stream up to the Moray Firth. It's much
colder to the east and to the north.
I first visited that part of Scotland in 1978 when I was stationed at
RAF Lossiemouth on the Jaguar Operational Conversion Unit. My batman
(halcyon days) told me that winter that it never snowed at Lossie
(because of the Gulf Stream). Of course the place was covered with a
thick layer within 24 hours ...
