I have the G7 and did a quick noise test.

At ISO 3200 the camera reduces the resolution to 1600 x 1200 and does a
noise reduction.
The ISO value is not listed in the exposure area of the Exif info.
I was told by Canon that I needed to use their software to view it.
Not convenient at all.
It has are a lot of nice features for a point and shoot camera.
I told my wife I bought it for her. She did take it with her today to a
craft fair.
At least when she isn't using it I will have fun fiddling with it.
My FL-40 flash works great with it.
