I didn't understand at first your comment about "overcompression" on
commercial CD's since CD compression technology is simple pulse code
modulation (PCM) which is a lossless compression techonology (unlike
MP3). But then I read your link below and realized that the
overcompresion you refer to is occuring in the digital mastering stage
and not the CD PCM conversion.
