Scored a fang yesterday, at least as I define it. Meaning, it works for me,
and I'm a dedicated cheepskate bottomfeeding amateur, who loves to find and
use quality, but generally lesser-known stuff (hence film, and
consumer-grade OM) and avoids spending "real money" on any of it (to
maintain my amateur status); where "real money" for me kicks in somewhere
between $20-$35 (meaning at that point I start getting real serious about
comparison shopping and warranty).
That said, my second-hand shop find (OK, if you insist, "second-hand shop"
is over-gorifying it, it was actually a thrift shop) was a Yashica FX103
Program SLR. Came with a ML 50/1.9 and a very nice strap, either of which
alone should cover the $2.88 price, despite the lack of a battery cover and
the somewhat crumbling-off fuzzy exterior padding. At that price, I wouldn't
have minded a bit if it had proven to be only a nonworking doorstop (rather
like my Nikkormat doorstop), but hand-holding batteries in it, using my
nonfitting Min*lta cover shows that it appears to work (it meters and fires,
with appropriate-sounding varing shutter speeds). Loss of battery cover
likely limited its use and led to its donation by the original owner. If it
had DOF preview it would be my best body; as it is, it has the best
in-viewfinder info (coupled, matched LED in manual mode) and metal vertical
shutter. And I understand there's a bit of Contaxiness to it and its
accessories.
Sounds fun.
