Wahoo! I'm going to go sell my digitals now. ;)
Seriously, I'm happy that they've improved an already
outstanding film. The old Provia still gives the best
mixed-lighting performance when compared to digital. With a
high-quality scanner (like my V-ED), Provia scans so well as to
pretty well match the best that digital can give. Unless you
fixate on "noise/grain" or ultimate-resolution. Dye-Cloud films
still suffer from lateral halation, although Provia 160NC is
about the tightest film I've ever come across.
This does give me a thought. Instead of getting a BXTPDB for my
10MP, why not just shoot the new 160NC in my OM for the interim?
After all, it really does scan better and has more
"digital-like" characteristics than Velvia/Provia.
Hmmm.
