The D.Zuiko 7-14 is quite noticeably wider than the Zuiko 18mm. The D.Zuiko
11-22 is probably wide enough to make most people happy and is significantly
cheaper than the 7-14. A fixed focal length 8 or 9mm lens would be a nice
addition to the D.Zuiko line up.
I've been keeping an eye open for a super wide lens for my 5D. The only
thing I've seen that looks very promising is the old manual focus N*kon 15mm
f3.5 which seems to be selling at about $700. This Nikon seems to be
sensitive to flare. There don't seem to be any 35mm lenses comparable to the
7-14 D.Zuiko zoom. The Sigma 12-24(?) has soft corners.
If you're looking for something wider than the 11-22 but don't really
need/want to go as wide as the 7-14, then the 7-14 likely looks
prohibitively expensive. If you have an almost daily need to go as wide as
possible, perhaps the only competition may be stitched images.

Now that I have a competent dSLR (E-500), two lenses, and a flash, I've
started looking for other lenses. I love wide angles, so I looked at the
Olympus 7-14mm lens for this camera.

Shouldn't it cost a lot _less_ than a
comparable 35mm lens?
I checked Adorama's listing for Canon digital-specific lenses for their
APS-C sensor cameras. The comparable lens, a 10-22mm zoom, is $690. Not
$1690 -- $690. The closest 35mm lens is the Canon 16-35mm, for $1400.
