Mark et. al,
>The 7-14mm is a pro-grade lens and clearly isn't targeted to the E-500
market.
No real reason to think that, the E500 is "prosumer" grade camera body, a pro
is very happy working with it, and it is a lot more camera than most consumers
are used to..
>The Canon 10-22mm isn't in the same league,
exactly, C*non isnt even in the same league as OLYMPUS, you cannot compare the
2 products, it is like nectarines and Pineapples.. 2 completely different
species..
> Olympus is clearly missing a consumer grade,
Oly is missing a few products, that is granted, even by their own management,
but I expect with the future developments and refinements of their E-xxx series
we will see more quality products come online. I know I am looking forward to
them myself.. and that lens is on my MUST HAVE list until such time as
something else ZD comes up..
Always remember, you get what you pay for.. you can take a picture with a
shoebox, as long as you have a good lens.. the lens is the business end of
things, not the camera body..
it's kinda like people mistaking the fiddle and bow... the bow is the
important part.. that is what makes the sounds.. I can make a cigar box sound
like a `1800's masters fiddle with a high quality bow.. but with a crappy bow,
even a fiddle of that vintage will sound like a cigar box..
Cheers.. Tim
