RAID is very useful for many applications, but not, IMHO, for storing
digital photos. The basic problem with RAID is that if you perform a
legitimate (but unintended) delete, it deletes it of all disks in the
RAID at the same time, with no possibility of recovery. You're far
better off having a scheduled copy between the disks using something
like RoboCopy, but without the /mir switch.
I could go on and on about how to do backups, but really it's a question
of looking at each case individually.
I just wanted to say that if you are fortunate enough to have 2 disks,
RAID is almost certainly NOT the way to go.
