I can try, Simon, (but I tend to agree that the E-500 is very much more
tempting than its predecessors). Now, let me see, how does it go?
1. Obsolescence & depreciation.
2. No proper manual focussing.
3. Quality of photos.
4. Size of equipment.
5. Cost of lenses.
6. Investment in film cameras and lenses.
7. Battery life.
8. Data storage / backup / obsolescence concerns.
9. Too many buttons for an old fart like you.
See, that wasn't so hard, now was it?
Maybe the killer objection is that the E-x is just around the corner, if you
can bear to wait.

Subject: [OM] Tempted by the E-500
I'm really tempted by an E-500 kit deal.
http://www.fotosense.co.uk/shop_details.asp?productID=1476
seems like a really good deal. I saw the advert in AP and it seemed like a
better bet than the others.
Please can someone (other than my wife) talk me out of this?
Thanks,
Simon
