John, you *need* to look at the following datasets:
Paul Farrar's page on Zuiko lenses which includes the following wrt the
50/1.4 "There are multiple versions of this lens (probably 5, according to
people with parts lists). Some early ones have a radioactive rare-earth
glass element. I hear it's not dangerous, but it can yellow with age. The
last version of this lens (not rare-earth), with serial #s over 1,100,000,
is reputed to be the best."

Gary Reese's lens tests, including results for a 50/1.4 with S/N above
1,100,000 :

And maybe Lee Hawkins' coating survey results:

When you have memorised that lot, we can move on to "Lenses 102" ;-)

Subject: [OM] 50mm f1.4 versions?
>I have a 50/1.4 lens of that vintage which is fine, but I wouldn't have
accepted a similar purchase from a seller; the difference between lenses is,
I understand, significant.<
I recently acquired via eB*y a 50mm f1.4 with the serial number 1152298. I'm
very pleased with it, but didn't realise these were several versions.
Presumably this one is quite late?
We only ask because we want to know . . .
