After seeing herself on the LCD screen, and realizing having her picture
taken was actually painless, we went back and took another shot. This one
has a much more relaxed expression.

These people speak only Quechua, and I speak only English, so overcoming the
language barrier is a bit of a challenge. But I was able to communicate to
this (another) little girl the idea of actually posing with her donkeys and
her dog for some shots. This is one of a series I shot of her with her
animals. This little girl was one of about 300 people who walked the
mountain trails to this location to meet with us.
http://pastway.smugmug.com/gallery/914938/1/41762523 Some had walked for 2
or 3 days. So the donkeys were brought along to carry some of their things.
Of course the little donkey wouldn't have carried anything. At this
location, we were at the village of Alpaca, a village only accessible by
vehicle for a few months of the year. Even then it has to be a pretty good
4x4 to get there.
