And even if you have a real-time EVF image and can magnify it the
magnification really only helps with relatively static images. It won't
be much longer, however, until we see much higher resolution EVF's which
will alleviate but not eliminate the need for higher magnification.
I should probably patent this idea but it also shouldn't be hard to
introduce a spot focusing area in the view screen kind of like a spot
metering area. Press a button and a small area corresponding to your
chosen autofocus point(s) gets considerably magnified so you can see to
manually focus or verify autofocus. Since it would be only a small area
(like the metering area on our OM's) you could still see the surround
and follow moving subjects. Like any good EVF it could also have its
brightness amplified so we could see to focus well in dim light.
