I have used both auto color and color matching with mixed success.
Sometimes they work perfectly, sometimes they get close enough to do
a small eyeball tweak to get what you want and sometimes you end up
with something that looks like it was taken on an alien world.
Since learning that 90 percent color balance technique I hardly ever
bother with them though. It is almost always spot on.
