Did you reply to the first unsubscribe reply? Some people don't actually 
read it and see they must reply to it to complete unsubsctiption. Why do 
I know this? Because I'm one of those people. Switched email addresses, 
unsubscribe didn't work.

The reason is simple enough. It keeps someone from faking your email 
address and changing your subscription.
