I don't have an LS-4000, but I am very surprised that your slides are
out of focus. I cannot imagine that using a digital camera for
individual "scanning" of slides would be faster or of better quality
than a dedicated and high quality film scanner like yours.
You could send me 4 slides and let me scan them on my Minolta 5400; I
should have thought that your Nikon would be at least the equal of
that quality.
