Hi,
I agree with Bill below. I shot a band of a couple of friends during a
small festival using 400 ASA pushed to 800 and the grain just added to
the mood. However, I used Kodak Portra 400VC. There's also an 800
available, but not in the NC/VC varieties.
Try not to use flash and take more pictures. The ones that work will
have the best atmosphere, better than flash with gel filters IMHO.
