Perhaps I shouldn't talk since I don't know diddly about the JPEG
algorithm... unlike for, example, LZW (Lev, Zimpel, Welch/Wegman) which
I know in excruciatingly painful detail.
However, I have to admit to some skepticism about the praise for the
superior image quality of some implementations. Performance yes, but it
seems to me unlikely that there can be significantly different quality
implementations and still have the data be recognized by another
implementation of the same algorithm.
However, I'll be happy to be shown incorrect and that I shouldn't be so
cavalier about which app I use to store a JPEG.
