Going through Graham's entertaining website (it's like a dictionary,
you go there to see one thing but find loads of others while you're
there ...) I saw again his bike ride series. In it he mentions a
chap on an electric bike. Well I have been advised, politely, by my
doc to lose around 7kg (15.43lb according to my Mac calculator,
referring to pounds as "US pounds" for some reason) and to go down
from 5.8 total cholestorol to less than 5.2 using exercise*. Well I
thought that I would cycle to work on occasion, but the journey is 17
or 18 miles (27.36 or 28.97km). This is too far to cycle if I want
to guarantee getting there for Met Brief at 0830, so I have bought an
bike with an electric motor.
The bike is a Scott Sportster P5 and the motor is a Currie 24v with
9AH Ni-MH battery. It does around 16 miles with liberal use of the
motor (but pedalling all the while) and it is pretty fast. I did 17
miles in 1 hr on Tuesday and I am only mildly sweaty on arrival if I
allow a little time to cool down. Going home is magic, even with
headwinds (which there will nearly always be as my mean heading is
180 degrees) as I have time to stop and get out my camera and snap at
whatever takes my fancy. And that is how this is an on-topic post: I
always carry an Olmpus with me.
In fact, I have just bought an XA4 (again) on the online auction
website and I am looking forward to some wideangle shots based on the
GeeBee model. Hurrah! ;-)
