If you're interested in architecture, be sure to consider the Chicago
Architecture Foundation. CAF offers dozens and dozens of tours, most
on foot, some by bus, and a great tour by boat. There's even a tour of
the Loop from a CTA elevated train. Tour cover historic skyscrapers by
Daniel Burnham, Louis Sullivan, et al. and modern wonders by Ludwig
Mies van der Rohe and Helmut Jahn. CAF even arranges tours of Wright's
work, both in Chicago and in Oak Park. For more info, check CAF's web
site: www.architecture.org.
Gino's is still around and is as good as ever, but it moved. It's no
longer on Superior east of Michigan Avenue. It's now west of Michigan
Avenue in the old Planet Hollywood space.
People have mentioned the pizza, hot dogs, and Italian beef, but no one
has mentioned steak. Chicago is famous for great slabs of meat. The
Morton's steak house chain started here. But I recommend Gene &
Giorgetti's, both for a sense of real Chicago character and for great
food. They aren't overly friendly to strangers there, but you'll get a
great meal.
