I considered stopping, but the shoulder wasn't very wide and everyone
seemed to be weaving a lot (no doubt staring at the fire). I kept
imagining a big diesel rig plowing into my little Beetle as I sat on
the shoulder. And the stench was really pretty overpowering, too.
