I know I must sound like a broken record, bringing this up every 2nd. or
3rd. time this discussion comes up.
All of the DSLRs have anti-aliasing filters to limit the resolution
reaching the sensor. Assuming the Oly D lenses are designed for an
eventual sensor resolution of at least 12mp, and maybe more, this
proposed practical test, while interesting, would not provide a full
answer to the question with the currently available bodies.

I can't argue with that but you've lost track of the original question.
I wasn't asking about the ultimate resolution ability of an Oly or
other digital design lens. I was asking specifically if the OM Zuikos
were up to the task of fully utilizing the resolving power of the 8 MP
sensor on the E-300 (or Canon 20D for that matter).
I take it for granted that the Oly D lenses are probably designed for
resolution in excess of today's sensors. What I was asking is whether
that superior resolution ability is already visible with an 8 MP sensor.
The underlying question is: At what level of sensor resolution does the
OM Zuiko become non-competitive with the digital specific designs.
