But it does make a difference. The analogy would be in expanding the
compress dynamic range of an image. You fill the range, but don't add
any more data than was there before. Intermediate values may be
calculated by various algorithms, but they dcan't recreate the
intermediate tones that would have been there with an exposure/medium
with less contrast. No matter what the sensor can capture, once it has
been mapped to sRGB, the inner detail of color variation can't be recreated.
