I've been thinking about getting a flatbed to do batches of images at
once. Primary use would be to scan years worth of old personal and
family slides and both 35mm and MF negs. I could use it to preview new
rolls too, but I'm a little concerned about the extra handling involved.
I like the idea of putting each strip into the scanner once, then safely
back into its sleeve, with all later work done on the digital negative.
Maybe I'm being to concerned, forgetting I live in the PS age. I don't
mind the time it takes to generate JPEG 'proofs' from the RAW files as,
at least on this machine, I can go on with other things while it works.
Anyway, it's not an issue until I get a new flatbed.

I still haven't decided about that. Once the RAW files for the losers
have been eliminated and first rate TIFFs extracted for the winners, the
RAW files may not really be needed anymore. The winner TIFFs from a roll
should generally fit on a DVD for backup. And, of course, the film
itself remains as another form of backup.
