An educational discount which I now understand is financed by the Government
of Japan!
Images of the Olympus recommendations for use of OM Zuiko lenses on E-1 are
here (Japanese text, but you can deduce what the relevant numkbers are):

Hi Maarten, and welcome to the List :-)
We have just been discussing this adaptor and I believe that most of us
think that having some sort of adaptor is an excellent idea - so that you
can continue to use some of your favourite Zuikos. However, Olympus make
their own and many members of the List have been provided with this adaptor,
the MA-1, free. I asked the marketing manager of Olympus UK for one,
telling him that I was considering an E-1 only if I could use my old Zuikos
with it. He sent me one within a couple of days of my buying an E-1.
Do note, however, that the instructions that come with the MA-1 recommend
only certain apertures with the Zuiko/E-1 combination.
It is also worth noting that the E-1 is available for about half price as a
discount for educational establishments and personnel ...
