That is where it originated in early optical work with mostly single
element lenses. Still works pretty well for normal through tele lenses,
where the front node is near or in front of the front element, but not
for WA lenses. Lots of stuff possibly clarifying, or at least intended
to clarify, all this has been posted or linked since then.
My point was simply that the confabulation of various terminologies and
meanings for them is so great that I choose to live my life wihtout
getting it all straightened out. I think the subsequent posts support
this conclusion, including a later part of your post.
