No fair enough: it's a bold overstatement! But I think we can fairly
safely say from the discussions here that they are far more difficult to
focus manually, perhaps to such an extent that one probably would never
bother.

That's a fair comment, but it assumes the retention of the old MF gear.
The fact that you don't want to part with it says a heck of a lot to me.

One could argue that almost every single camera adds something since
most are slightly different.

And I appreciate your comment: provided one is happy with very limited
manual focussing capabilities, the advantages of digital (& AF, for that
matter) may overwhelm the desire for MF, either generally (if one is
switching to it completely), or in certain circumstances (if one is able
to keep old MF equipment as well).

Personally, I am very keen on the idea of digital, but I'm not prepared
to sacrifice usable MF.

Again, a fair point. But (apart from the feel of the lens) my gripe was
with the lack of appropriate focussing screen to aid manual focussing.
