FWIW the N*kon D-70 has a focus assist even with MF lenses. I put an
Adaptall-2 N*kon mount on my Big Ron (Tamron 80-200 f2.8) and when I hit focus
the little green light in the viewfinder lit up.
Also couples the aperture ok too but no metering at all. (You have to resort
to guesswork, a quick chimp at the instant histogram, and tweak as necessary.
Workable, but when you are used to auto-exposure it's hard to do without. And
the D-70 spot is not as good as the OM4 multi-spot. Auto-focus I could live
without but it's nice when you get used to it.
Hackers have also reported on how they changed the focusing screen.
