Despite authoritative indications to the contrary regarding prolonging battery
life, some folks still insist on putting their OMs away set to the red 60 or B,
convinced that this saves the batteries. This, of course, doesn't hurt
anything, but those who do this remind me of an old farmer I once had a
conversation with that went something like this:
Me: What sort of crops do you grow?
Farmer: Oh, we grow barley and radishes.
Me: Barley, eh? Is that a money-maker?
Farmer: Oh, yeah, barley's a real money crop.
Me: And how about the radishes?
Farmer: No, we don?t make no money on the radishes.
Me: Then why do you grow them?
Farmer: Because of the wolverines. Radishes keep the wolverines away.
Me: But there ain't no wolverines around here.
Farmer: Yeah, them radishes really work.

may have imagined this whole thing.
