I didn't know that rust might be a problem on Mercs; in fact, there is
a 30-year warranty on Merc bodies, one which MB instituted about 4
years ago. No my problems were niggling ones (e.g. ABS brake sensor,
accelerator kick-down button, glue appearing over the window glass
creaking fascia (needed a windscreen reseat) etc...), but expensive if
I had had them out of warranty. And the brake pads cost £100 a pair
plus tax and fitting!
The older S-Class cars have long been a good buy over here, but their
fuel consumption is of course way out of line.
Now, if I were willing to waste a bit of fossil fuels before Bush feels
forced to raid Antartica I might buy myself a British car; the TVRs
have a lot of style and ooomph (and one of my former students has just
bought a Griffin.....).
