Another factor to be considered. Some scanners can deal internmally a higher color depth than they actually transmit to the computer. For example the scanner can dela with 12 bit (color depth per channel) while the output to the computer will be 8 bit. So the software can take that 8 bit at the lower end or higer and of the working range. Hope it is clear what I mean.
