Certainly something wrong. The batteries should never even get warm from
use.

No. You could try another set of batteries, silver oxide only, 357 or
SR44W preferred, to be sure it wasn't some internal problem with one of
the batteries.

If now batteries don't fix it, then unless you are the handy type who
can open it up and look for a short, it is probably uneconomic to
repair. Working OM-10s are cheaper than a repair. The OM-10 was Oly's
cheapest body, millions were sold and those who are still interested in
using Oly OMs are generally interested in the better bodies, so there
are a lot of 10s around cheap. Personally, I would buy at least an OM-G
(OM-20) if price is a big issue. It's sort of a 10 with the bugs worked
out and the manual function built in. Otherwise, I would replace it with
an OM-2n or one of the OM-4 series. The OM-10 is part of the "consumer"
series that aren't built to the standards of the first quality
single-digit bodies. The OM-2n does everything an OM-10 with manual
adapter does, and some things it doesn't, and it is much better built
and still both worth repairing and fully repairable. The OM-4 bodies add
highly capable multi-spot metering and mirror/aperture pre-fire to
reduce vibration induced unsharpness with longer shutter speeds, but
they are not all as repairable long term as a 2n. You can learn a lot
about the various models here
<http://olympus.dementia.org/eSIF/om-sif.htm>. There is also an endless
amount of info in the archives of this list.

I have a couple of working 10s and a G/20 for sale, all working and
looiking very nice, but I'm off on vacation in a couple of days 'til the
28th, so I can't do any deals for a bit.
