A list member sent me a link to one of his photos where he had used stacked
Oly TC's. Hard to judge how good a print would be but he's definitely
convinced me to carry a pair of TC's. I'll probably try to shoot with the
pair stacked and then again with a single TC when the subject hasn't moved
too far.
My bias has always been that the 1.4x TC works well with some lenses but
that a 2x and especially a stacked pair was a good way to end up very
dissappointed. Both the digital images that prompted me to seek opinions and
the list members photo have convinced me the risk of getting a worthless
photo is small and to bet on the stacked pair for awhile when needed. No one
seems to have found a magic combo but it's seems to be a reasonable risk to
use the 2x and/or stack the 1.4x + 2x.
Thanks to all for the opinions and experiences.
Now to plan how to get away from work long enough to get to New Mexico ...
