I think Charlie is correct, in that Carl Zeiss Jena (the East German entity)
sold their name around the time of German re-unification. I also agree that
the price is outlandish. 3840106290 is an almost identically styled CZJ
28-70 zoom for OM, currently with 1 bid, and less than USD10 (yes, ten
bucks) which sounds a more reasonable price.

Roda,
I have no first-hand experience with this lens, but as I understand
it, the Jena lenses were all made in Japan during a difficult period for
Carl Zeiss in which they sold their name for profit. I have been told they
are "OK" lenses but not up to Carl Zeiss standards and certainly not worth
the asking price of $200-300. You'd be much better off with a Vivitar Series
1 lens of similar focal length at a price of less than $100 if you are
patient.

On Ebay the lens Carl Zeiss 28-85mm F4-5 is in auction now ( 3838429000 ).
It is made in Japan . What about the quality? Do someone know it?
Thank you in advance.
