And the bane of photography of small children is slow focus and shutter
lag. I second Winsors general comments in this area, although I can't
comment on these characteristics in the Olys mentioned. I know that
focus/shutter response would be at the top of my list for anyone who
wants to photograph active children.
I have some lovely 8x10s of my grandaughters taken with my little 2mp
S110. I also have taken lots of shots of them that are failures in one
way or another due to shutter lag. I would take fast focus/shutter over
megapixels every time for taking candid snaps of kids. In the choice
between a little noise vs. subjects in the frame and in focus, I know
what I choose. Of course for more money, you can win on both.

The Can*n P&Ss I've used , an S110 and an S410, do a really good job of
producing a pleasing image with nice contrast and color. However, those
images can often be improved upon quite a bit, although less with people
snaps than scenics. I understand that at least some Olys do this too,
but I can't speak from experience about them.
