Here is another example of the funny OOF effects mirror lenses can give,
in this case the 500's sibling, a Tamron SP 350/5.6

case, rather than a donut effect on highlights, I got a sort of doubling
effect on grass and stems at a certain distance. I can't say it really
adds to the image, but it didn't seem to particualrly detract either.
This was focused fairly close for a long lens, to create a different
perspective rather than to bring something far away apparently closer.
