Regarding the Lasik part of this thread. As an avid outdoors person, I felt
quite hindered by heavy, thick, usually cracked and taped, glasses since the
age of 7. I had extended wear contacts until about 2 years ago. What a pain. I
needed +9.5 correction in both eyes at age of 50.
When I had Lasik Monovision surgery in November of 2002, the result was as
close to a miracle as I could only imagine. No glasses for reading (left eye
is about 20/30), and everything is crystal clear in my trusty OM-2 viewfinder
(dominant right eye is a bit better than 20/20).
I see better at close and distance than I did before the surgery. The dust
in my viewfinder is even more bothersome than before. And I can't believe that
I've lived with all that dust in my 21mm either! Yuck!
I've heard some people voice concern about monovision, in that one eye will
be "different" than than the other. Truthfully, I notice it, but it's not
bothersome. It's only an adjustment.
Obviously, I'm an advocate. Everyone's situation is different, but it sure
worked well for me!
