I've created an action that creates a new layer called LCE and does an
Unsharp Mask of 20% @ radius 50 and threshold 0. I think I got those
values off Luminous Landscape and have found them to work very well. The
advantage of doing it in a separate layer are that you can adjust the
layer opacity to lighten the effect, if necessary, without having to go
back and forth trying different values, a big time saver. I find that
these values work for a great many images. It's like lifting a veil over
the real image in many cases. It doesn't do much to a few and really
looks awful on occasional images.

It may be undone if done in a separate level.

Should generally be the first thing tried, except maye spotting, as it
changes the histogram. On some images, it can significantly add to high
brightness pixels, pushing them into pure white and losing high end
detail. In this case, I move the histogram down a bit and try it again.

Because of the changed to the histogram, it really is better to do LCE
at 16 bits
