The Schnozz lamented:
...However, my
LEXAR 1GB 40x WA card screams along pretty good in the A1...
Draining the card into a computer is a pain. The included reader
and my computers must be 1.1. It'll take about 35 minutes to
drain a full card on my home computer. (longer if I'm gaming)

Try adding this to your computer:

USB 2.0 and can be used externally or installed along with or in place
of that useless 1.44 MB floppy drive.
The first one I got didn't work well but the replacement had a different
version of software. I did some performance testing on it but don't
recall the numbers right now. It was at least 2MB/sec and maybe even as
fast as 4MB/sec. In any case it totally blew away the USB readers
included with the Lexar WA cards which were already blowing away the
built-in 1.1 reader on my HP photo printer. And, of course, it
reads/writes many differnt types of flash memory cards. The only
downside here is that it "permanently" installs a drive letter for every
type of card that it supports.
Another advantage is that it has its own driver software and you don't
have to tell Windows to "stop" the device. Removing the CF card does
not engender any complaints from Windows. But there must be a media
change interrupt since the driver does not get confused if a different
card is inserted.
I have no connection here other than being a long time ocassional
customer of computer geeks. They basically sell surplus computer and
electronics gear. Fair prices and good service.
