My favorite is a Leki walking stick. Mine has a wooden ball on top with an inset compass. Unscrew the ball and there is a 14 inch tripod thread. I use a Bogen 3232 monopod head on top. It allows up-down adjustment beyond what is practical by tilting the stick/pod, is light and cheap and has a great thumbscrew for camera attachment.
