This is a good point, but I think the bigger point to me is that a lot
of people are skipping the craft part of photography altogether and
relying on automatic settings both in the camera and in Photoshop to
get results for them. I'm all for making the process as transparent as
possible, but I think it's really important to understand how things
work, too.
Mike Judge has a new movie coming out soon (as yet untitled) and I
couldn't help but laugh when I saw the synopsis:
Private Joe Bowers, the definition of "average American", is selected
by the Pentagon to be the guinea pig for a top-secret hibernation
program, set 1,000 years in the future. He awakens to discover a
society so incredibly dumbed-down that he's easily the most intelligent
person alive.
