Beware the idea of using the Manfrotto 234RC tilt head on top of a monopod if you really want it so you can switch 90 degrees for a portrait shot. It tilts backwards and forwards if you have the quick-release plate in the conventional prosition and can't tilt sideways. And if you rotate the QR plate on the camera it's likely to unscrew itself if you've got a heavy lens on it. Stick to balls.
