Yes, I do know.
An OM4T/Ti will trip the shutter without batteries, but only if you set the
shutter speed ring to the red 60 mark next to B. And only at 1/60. And
without firing a flash (the shutter will trip, the flash won't).

Well now I'm beginning to have doubts about that old OM2 and I'll have to
give it a try again! I know it used to lock up now and then as well forcing
me to use the reset procedure. Anyway, I know this OM2n won't work
- I haven't tried the OM4Ti - do you know if it will trip without batteries?

Well that inspired me to take a look at my OM2 Jim. I took the batteries
out before tripping the shutter, and whaddya know, the mirror locked up. Of
course, "No batteries" is not the same as "Dead batteries" - but only if the
dead batteries are playing dead (ie, they have sufficient juice to drive the
shutter, but not the viewfinder needle).
At least I now know what version OM2 I have, because I can take a look at
the shutter curtain pattern!

Yes, it is my original OM2 that I've had since 1978. I've had to use it
several times when batteries died and the shutter would trip - I think it's
at 1/60th sec. Fortunately, these batteries last so long I've rarely had to
do that! I just thought the OM2n would allow me to use it manually as well,
but I guess not!

Are you sure that was OM2? OM2S does have a fall-back mechanical speed of
1/60 (as does OM4/4T), but I was not aware that any other 2-series did.

Also, on my OM2, even if the batteries died, I could still use it manually
(I believe it fell back to 1/60th sec.)
