Shouldn't that be a piece of cake with digital? Sounds like this camera (if
not oother digicams) is a step backward in that regard.

This is really confusing! You don't need more than 5mp, larger filesize
would be bad, but your next camera would be 8mp? What am I missing?

Glad I haven't invested in a high-res digicam yet. We shall see if
technological advances continue in the pro level DSLRs.

Agreed. My little 2MP Camedia is very handy for bulk shooting, casual, etc.
It certinly isn't the quality of the A1 or, say a 5050 or 5060. But for the
actual use it gets, it's fine.
