Jim
I had the rear elements of an 8mm repolished at Avtronics in Sydney
(they're on the web), in their Francis Lord Optics division. They
charged me AU$80 (plus 10% tax) per surface and did a really nice job
of it (one surface was badly fungus etched). End result is that the
lens is now perfectly useable although the focus point appear to have
shifted slightly - your mileage may differ. Consequently, the image
circle is slightly clipped at the bottom, a problem easily rectified
in Photoshop. At the cost, for a lens like this, it's worth the risk.
They specialise is exotic lens restoration, but would prefer that you
just sent the elements (get a tech to remove them first).

As an aside, Rob Kan (Nizora) attempted to get a senior Oly person he
knows to check whether the elements for the 8mm were still in a
cupboard in Japan somewhere - and got beaten up by Oly Australia for
his trouble. Seeing as none of us are so dependent on Oly for our
living, perhaps we could start asking very politely...? Seeing as
we've had such an effect with the E1-MA1 :)
