The lens roadmap for 2004
<http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_files/zuiko_sched0405.pdf>
calls for an ultra-wide zoom of about 7-14mm focal length or 14-28mm
equivalent.
As I've said here before, Olympus's failure to produce a very wide angle
lens (fixed or zoom) on E-1 announcement day has (for me) weakened their
case on the fundamental concept behind the 4/3's system. With no very
wide angle 4/3 lens they have yet to demonstrate the stated superiority
of the 4/3 design in minimizing the angle of incidence of light rays
onto the sensor. I think that should have been priority number one even
though the market for such a lens is rather smaller than those
introduced so far.
